What makes a cynic, a cynic?

If in case you don't believe that love at first sight is possible
Or that you don't believe that forever can happen in real life
Or if you believe that even true love fades
And that there's really no person written in the stars destined for you?
Does that mean you're one cynical person?

cyn-ic
n.
A person who believes all people are motivated by selfishness.
A person whose outlook is scornfully and often habitually negative.

If I accept the first definition as true, then I am a cynic. Is selfisness not one of men's innate characteristics?
