Some disadvantages of having a guy best friend:

1. You get to be the butt of his jokes. Sometimes you wonder, could it be that the purpose of your existence is to amuse him?

2. You learn to be violent. This is in relation to the previous disadvantage. If you cannot think of a really good retort to his smart-aleck criticisms on you, there's no better way to get back at him than to hit him instead.

3. You get to be treated like a guy. He's too comfortable with you that he talks about yucky stuff and expect you to not be grossed out. He talks about girls as if you are into girls.

4. You get to have an instant brother. While this may be an advantage, having a guy best friend would mean him screening guys that might be interested with you. It also means hearing him degrade the guys you like just to turn you off.

5. You can't hide your true feelings when you're sharing a story about a guy to him. He'll know for sure if you're faking it when you're telling him that you're over a guy when really, you're not.

6. You get to be insecure at times. You cannot and will not forever be the only closest girl in his life. He'll meet someone who'll make his heart beat faster and all that mushy stuff. One day, from being the number one girl you end up being just the second. Although you'll still be the first person he'll call up when he and his girlfriend gets into a fight.

7. You get to be the object of jealousy of his significant other. If you might feel insecure of sharing your best friend with another girl, how do you imagine how his girlfriend feels?

8. You're treading on a very thin line. You run the risk of falling for him or him falling for you and end up losing and wasting your friendship.

It'll be me and Brian's 8th year as best friends this june. No exact date. Just June, the month when school starts.

Those were the only disadvantages I could think of of having someone from the opposite sex as a best friend. Disadvantages 1-6 are based from experience. 7 and 8, on the other hand, based from others' experiences. Brian's girlfriend, luckily, is very much secure of her role in Brian's life. And although there are people who disagree that platonic relationships are impossible, it is not for us. Some might say, wag magsalita ng patapos or I could be eating my own words in the future. It's not like we know what's in store for us or anything.. Basta, I know..
