spotless but not eternal sunshine

i have to give it to my sister for making me and my mom watch Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind. initially, i wanted to see A Cinderella Story, but since i made plans with the girls that we'll see it on monday instead (and my sister doesn't wanna watch it), it was jim and kate then.

it will have to be the best movie i've seen so far this year. it may sound exaggerated but yes, i totally LOVE the movie. Reasons why:

• it was presented in a non-linear way. notice that movies that follow this style usually get my nod. i like it that sometimes you can't follow the time line already.



• jim and kate were great. not too great but they were able to do justice to their roles. there's kate as the gregarious and eccentric woman and jim as this repressed and shy guy.



• on one hand, there was science and on the other, there was like, fate - wanting to erase someone from the brain but eventually meeting that person once again.



• it was realistic enough in the sense that sometimes we wish we could just erase things from our memory. to leave out unpleasant memories and just retain the good ones.. much like selective memory. the movie showed that even if it was possible to do as we want, it's not like it's gonna make us happy still.



• the title. i was clueless before we got to see it. why that title??? my own interpretation? eternal sunshine usually means this cheery/happy disposition/state. spotless mind for me means a mind with no (bad) memories. is it possible that we only have good memories? would that equate to happiness for us?



• there was the irony of desperately wanting to do things on an impulse and when given the chance, we want out (and realize that's not what we really want).

Harsh reality is, there will always be good times and bad times in our lives. And if bad times do happen to us, we can't just erase it from our minds 'cause later on we'll realize the lessons that we learned from that event/s. I can't explain every reason why i liked it but it's one movie one should take time to see,
